Qualifications
  • Gibbs & Olson has been providing road design and construction management services to clients throughout Western Washington since 1950
  • We have four engineers currently working in our Transportation Department with 59 years of experience in road and storm drainage design and construction management among them; 33 at Gibbs & Olson
  • These staff members have completed more than 30 successful road and sidewalk design projects in the last five years
  • Our engineers have extensive experience with projects funded by:
  • Transportation Improvement Board (TIB)
  • Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT)
  • Community Development Block Grant (CDBG)
  • Public Works Trust Fund (PWTF)
  • Variety of federal funds programs
  • Gibbs & Olson has uncommon success in assisting our clients to obtain grants from agencies such as TIB, WSDOT, CDBG, and others.  From 1996 through 2005, we helped our clients receive over $14 million for transportation projects. 
  • Our engineers have established, close working relationships with the TIB engineers in Olympia and WSDOT regional engineers in both the southwest and Olympic regions
  • Our engineers are familiar with all relevant codes and standards applicable to public works infrastructure projects.  Our engineers are familiar with the design criteria and standards adopted by Washington’s Department’s of Ecology, Health, Fish & Wildlife, and Transportation for roadway and pedestrian projects, storm drainage,wastewater, and water.  Our engineers are familiar with the Uniform Plumbing Code.  We are familiar with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) requirements for ensuring safe access for disabled citizens.  Early in each project, Gibbs & Olson identifies the regulatory agencies whose codes and standards are likely to apply.  Contact is made with the relevant staff member(s) and we work with him/her to ensure that the required submittals and applications are prepared according to requirements
  • We routinely prepare final design plans and specifications including special provisions utilizing WSDOT Standard Specifications
  • We routinely perform tasks associated with successful completion of a project.  For example we are experienced in obtaining permits and approvals, presenting projects at public meetings, and assisting in the preparation of state-mandated Six Year Transportation Plans.  Please see Related Services Section
