Hydrology/Hydraulics

Expertise

  • Model watersheds to predict water movement and its implications for water supply and flooding
  • Model water distribution and storage systems and wastewater pump stations and distribution and collection systems to supply basic planning and design parameters for capacity and allocation
  • Develop conceptual design for features of engineering projects that interact with water (e.g., intake/outlet structures, culverts under roadways)
  • Contribute to the planning of land uses and development projects
  • Model storm water infrastructure and design storm water management facilities
  • Design hydraulic structures such as spillways, fish ladders, canals, diffusers
  • Model mixing zone dilution and design of outfalls
  • Offer as much assistance as needed with essential non-engineering tasks associated with successfully completing a project (e.g., public presentations, maps and exhibits)

These capabilities add significantly to Gibbs & Olson’s ability to complete successful road, water, sewer, and drainage projects.

Qualifications
  • Four engineers on staff experienced at performing hydrology and hydraulics analyses
  • Experience with the following storm drainage, hydrologic and hydraulic software models:  StormCAD, PondPack, HEC-1, HEC-2, Stormshed, SWMM, and Hydra
  • Familiar with Best Management Practices for drainage facilities as outlined in the Department of Ecology’s Storm Water Management Manual for Western Washington
