Are you a high school senior living in Cowlitz County and want to pursue an engineering degree? If yes, you may qualify for a $2,500 Laurel C. Gibbs Scholarship.

Gibbs & Olson was founded by Laurel C. Gibbs in 1950. Since then, our company has provided engineering and surveying services to the local communities in southwest Washington. The $2,500 Laurel C. Gibbs Scholarship was established to assist high school seniors in pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree in engineering. Applications must be received no later than May 5th and the scholarship award will be announced in June.

Eligibility and Application Requirements:

  • Must reside in Cowlitz County at the time of application;
  • Must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better;
  • Must be intending to pursue a Bachelor of Science degree in engineering;
  • Must commit to full-time enrollment (taking 12 credits or more) for the entire
    2024-25 academic year;
  • Must submit educator reference (no letter required). Educator reference must include contact information (name, email address, phone number);
  • Must submit a written essay (800 words or less) describing future education goals,
    plans for financing your education and community involvement;

Selection Criteria:

  • Scholastic achievement
  • Quality of student’s application, essay and reference
  • Commitment to full-time enrollment for the entire 2024-25 academic year

Before proceeding to the application, please have all application information from the above list of application requirements along with the following required documents,
in digital format:

  • High school transcript (unofficial is acceptable)
  • Educator reference must include contact information (name, email address, phone number)
  • Essay (800 words or less)
  • Student’s photo

Scholarship Selection Disclaimer:

The Laurel C. Gibbs Scholarship selection is a competitive process. Although a candidate may meet the minimum criteria, that does not guarantee an award. The selection committee reserves the right to award or deny the application to any student based on the criteria established. The scholarship award must be received within one calendar year of the following term. As a condition of acceptance, the award recipient must show proof of enrollment in an institution of higher education (acceptance letter or registration documentation). If awarded, students agree that by applying for the scholarship Gibbs & Olson may share their name, photo and scholarship information with the local media and/or on the Gibbs & Olson website.
