Client—City of Astoria, Oregon
Gibbs & Olson provided surveying, design, and construction phase services for two of the City’s combined sewer/stormwater separation projects. Although the main objectives of these projects involved the City’s sewer and stormwater systems, both projects presented an opportunity for the City to address other issues, including significant roadway and sidewalk improvements.
The roadway improvements included 3,000 feet of roadway reconstruction including curb, gutter, sidewalk and new accessible pedestrian ramps on extreme slopes of up to 28 percent. Located within an urban commercial and residential area, both project sites posed unique challenges including routing buried pipelines through two large, active landslides; and addressing shallow groundwater and groundwater springs surfacing through the pavement.
