Butler Acres Elementary School Renovations
Owner—Kelso School District, Washington
Gibbs & Olson provided the survey, permitting and civil site design for school renovations for Butler Acres Elementary. The improvements included the construction of a building addition, repaving and widening of an existing parking lot, resurfacing an asphalt playground area, and site landscaping, as well as extending water and sewer utilities. Topographic information and data collected included existing roadways adjacent to and accessing the site, parking lots, sidewalks, playgrounds, buildings, underground and overhead utilities, newly acquired properties, and boundaries of the site. Construction staking was provided for the new parking lots, roadways, sidewalks, and utilities.
The existing stormwater system did not provide treatment or detention. The stormwater system discharged a portion directly to the City of Kelso’s drainage system with the remaining portion being directly discharged to a nearby stream. The onsite stormwater system was modified to provide runoff treatment prior to being discharged to the City’s system. The modifications also included providing detention, in an underground detention facility, prior to discharging to the nearby stream.
