Pump Station & Water Distribution Main Upgrades
Client—City of Kalama, Washington
The City hired Gibbs & Olson to provide surveying, design engineering, permitting, bid advertisement, construction management and inspection services for two water system improvement projects.
The first project included designing and constructing a new Lower Cloverdale Booster Pump Station to replace an existing outdated pump station as well as upgrading 700 feet of waterline. As part of this project, a new pump station building was constructed to house the booster pump equipment and propane-fueled standby electrical power generator. The pump station site is located in a residential area and it was important to the City that the new site be functional for the City’s needs while minimizing visual and noise impacts to the residential neighbors.
The second project replaced 2,400 feet of existing 6-inch PVC waterline with 8-inch AWWA C900 PVC. The improvements also included upgrading 4 new fire hydrants and valves along with 16 water services. Surface restoration was also completed as required by Cowlitz County.
